Umecrine AB is active in research and development of pharmaceutical agents against negative mental and physical symptoms caused by natural CNS-active stress- and sex steroids (GABA-A receptor modulating steroids). There are several different indications on Umecrine's current work list, conditions related to e.g. anxiety and mood, memory, depression, overeating and regulation of satiety and appetite. Umecrine's portfolio includes a number of newly discovered lead compounds and several drug candidates that are under investigation.

The company was founded in 2000 by leading scientists at the University of Umeå, Sweden.
